I ain't afraid of no trolls that live in their parents' basement...

There's a lot of controversy with this movie and frankly, I think some of it is bullshit. I respect the views and opinions of James Rolfe (AKA The Angry Video Game Nerd from Cinemassacre) and don't think he's this hateful sexist bigot in the slightest. He merely refused to see a reboot of a movie that really amazed him in his youth. Ghostbusters touched a lot of people in the 80s and had such a strange impact on society and culture. I was not one of these guys, I grew up amazed and inspired by RoboCop and Terminator, they were my childhood heroes and as you may or may not have read my reviews, I still gave THOSE rebooted movies a chance... I've seen the original Ghostbusters and gave this one a chance too, the original just wasn't in my childhood... Anyways...

I'm gonna go different, I don't wanna reveal plot or story as this movie has just come out so I don't wanna blow too much if you decide to see it. Instead I'll start with the actresses playing the main characters. Kristen Wiig is a physics genius with a bad history with ghosts, and wants to prove to everyone that she's right, her pursuit for knowledge is legit and she's not crazy. Melissa McCarthy is the more straight forward geeky science type. Kate McKinnon... From the trailers I was afraid they were gonna make her like the slutty friend kind of character and there's some scenes she kinda seems like she could be a lesbian... BUT she's just batshit crazy, and I LOVE this engineering madwoman kind of character, she reminds me a bit of The Joker from Batman, she's just really over the top and really fun, she even sets fire to her lab while dancing and singing and grabs a fire extinguisher to put out the flames but continues to sing and dance! Leslie Jones plays the street smart people person kinda New Yorker, really in love with the city and it's history, and although she gets in over her head with paranormal science stuff she won't hesitate to bitch slap the Hell outta some ghosts... These actresses and their characters were all very cool and I think really worked together in every scene, they did an awesome job. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) is also in this and it's funny to see him play this nice but really dumb model/jock guy trying to get a job, his comedy is great in this film.

"Um, ladies... The crazy dog man says we're all wood... No... Good, yeah that's it."
-Chris Hemsworth as Kevin

Action... There's some great action fights in this film, some good suspense as well but it seems to hop around a lot. Really good comedy (with occasional bad jokes) then jumps to serious scene of people in danger followed by really badass action scenes with their gadgets (especially later in the film) so it feels unbalanced at times. The effects? Well, the CG looks cartoonish but 1: It's Ghostbusters, expecting Avatar or Star Wars kinda effects is really pushing it, and 2: Eh, it still looks better than Terminator 3. Will say the older actor cameos and nods at the original Ghostbusters kinda feels weird as this is a reboot, BUT really I just see it as fan service and maybe even a way of acknowledging the original cast approves enough to be in the film and that's cool in my books.

"Sounds like he digged the movie..."

"It creeps me out when you stare like that..."

SO... Final verdict? Well Arktik Vixen and I went to see this to try and unwind after some really long and stressful weeks... I wasn't thrilled with the trailers, the movie didn't look like anything special and holy crap was I WRONG! Arktik and I both loved this film, she even mentioned wanting to own it when it comes out, and I really enjoyed it as well. Sure, has some flaws like some dumb jokes but I loved seeing this. Not the greatest movie ever though I don't consider the original to be that either... I give this Ghostbusters film 4 out of 5 neon blue poltergeists. Don't knock the movie until you see it, that's my best advice.
