More annoying than finding out your PC has to update again and again and drain your bandwidth...
Dark Souls has very original game mechanics that were developed in a previous "Souls" game called Demon Souls. Basically you adventure in this world of the dead and everytime you die you drop your "souls" which in this game is your money and experience points. The combat is very intuitive and fluid but annoying at times (just like other games that feature the same mechanics) when you're camera's locked on a single enemy and you get attacked from the side or behind from some weak monster grunt you don't see coming. Now, although this game is frustrating and annoying, it hardly ever gets to the point of rage quitting as going back to where you died you can pick up your experience points... But everytime you rest at a checkpoint (which is a bonfire in this game), level up at a checkpoint, or simply die, then all the monsters you killed are respawn as well. I've rarely rgotten really angry at this game, just bored I usually have to replay the same environments over and over again...
Enemies I don't hate or love really. I mean, they fit the game and don't cheat or nothing... Shield guys you just evade their attacks and attack them, sword zombies you just gotta be faster than them, on occasion you roll or block their attacks. What bugs me is shit like crossing a bridge, facing a shield zombie and an axe zombie and being bombarded by grenades by some asshole hiding on a rooftop and I got no room to roll around the people on the same level as me and 5 feet away! What's worse is fighting a boss (Which the bosses in this game are huge and will kill you in just a few hits) on a narrow bridge with no room to maneuver. But as I mentioned, when you die you start at a checkpoint, rekill everybody and get their souls/XP, and go to where you died and pick up the souls/XP you lost so it's more annoying than frustrating. It's a shame too, because I feel this game is really big and I wanna find out what happens next but am stuck in the zombie kingdom covered in green puke!
It sucks because the game is interesting and has good gameplay but the environment and medieval theme just feels bland and way too "been there, done that in a ton of other games". Even the character creation is pretty lame because your character doesn't look how you designed, he/she is a hollow so he/she looks like a zombie until you get later on in the game and restore their humanity. Oh, but if you die you look like a f***ing ugly ass zombie again! Dark Souls gets 3 out of 5 mediocre souls... Even though it's original, I've seen better in 2 of it's clones: Bloodborne and Lords of The Fallen. Even the game's NPCs talk like they're bored being stuck in this game! | |
