They say this is the worst game of all time...
I remember in the early 90s this game being advertised everywhere; Sega Visions, Nintendo Power, Wal-Mart, everywhere! The game is @D fighting game like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat featuring the big man Shaq fighting through arenas looking for some kid that got kidnapped by an evil mummy and taken to an alternate dimension.... Seems plausible to me... NOT!!!
Gameplay: I heard people complain the characters are too small but I think it's kinda cool as it makes the stages seem bigger with (sometimes) grandiose backdrops. Special moves are a pain in the butt to pull off, so for the most part I just run in and open up a can of whoopass on my opponents... Doesn't always work. Green skull muck man is a good example as he electrocutes me when I get close and calls lightning from the sky when I'm far aways, can barely get a single hit in.
There's some cool features in the game. I mentioned the stages and I like how their faces change with damage received much like Doom or Wolfenstein. But there's not a whole lot going on for a simple fighting game. Worst game ever? Nah, I don't think it's that bad (I've played NES Last Ninja, mind you!) but it's definitely not as good as other fighting games out at the time like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, even Cosmic Carnage! But Shaq-Fu? It's okay... Not terrible, but not great, just mediocre and okay... Wouldn't be so bad if I could pull off special moves but no, so the infamous Shaq-Fu gets 3 out of 5 IcyHot flavored Crunch bars. | |
