Originally a GameCube exclusive back in 2002, this game had been re-re-released for the new systems with controls for those who can't figure out old school challenging stuff...

So what exactly is different in this version than the original PlayStation version? Not the story, that's the short answer! For starters, the cheesy black and white cinematics are gone as well as the bad voice acting, replaced with quality voice acting to help give this game the more serious atmosphere it deserves. Speaking of more serious atmosphere, they redesigned the environments and implemented shadows that look straight outta Aliens or Doom 3, giving it more of a horrific feel that the bright mansion that it once was. There's also new rooms with new puzzles as well as new enemies like a zombies that unless properly disposed of by flame will evolve into faster and more powerful little nasties called Crimson Heads. There's also a new boss that is unstoppable much like Nemesis was, I think they tried to reveal how the virus inside Nemesis was experimented and came to be.

"This screenshot really shows you how improved the GameCube version was over the PlayStation version... And yes, that IS the same room!"

Negatives? I don't really have any for the game but do have some for the modern gamers. One of the biggest changes in the PS3/PS4/Xbox 360/Xbox One rel;ease was the controls which people had been complaining about for a long time. I'm sorry, this isn't a FPS game, everything in this game is meant to be challenging and make you think how to deal with situations such as conserving ammo, how to get from point A to B without taking much damage, even running away like a girl! The controls are meant to feel like if you're stuck in a situation you can't just fluidly get away, mashing buttons and the joysticks gave players (At least me) this feeling of "Oh my God, where do I go, what should I do?" as well as feel like I'm tripping over my feet. By "fixing" the controls, the developers really took out a key factor in the Resident Evil horror and made the game easier to play, which also translates to "Easier to survive the horror." What's next people bitch and whine they can't find or know how to mix herbs so they "need" regenerating health like Call of Duty like Halo? Or how about not finding enough ammo or guns so the developers "need to" fix this and spend millions to re-re-RE-release the game? The RE series started bumpy but the worked out the kinks and the games were golden classic before RE4 even came out. The developers didn't have to fix anything but thought a remake of the original was a cool idea. They were right. But now it seems (To me at least) that gamers are milking the developers trying to get whatever they can get. I'm sorry guys, but they really don't owe you nothing so quit acting like they do.

"What do you mean 'I have to aim before firing'? Why don't I see my health or ammo on a HUD? Why do I have to change pistol clips? This is stupid and I won't play anymore until Capcom fixes this broken game!"

Despite giving the original Resident Evil a 3 out of 5 rating, this 2002 GameCube remake really stepped the game up and gave it a more spooky and horrific atmosphere that could be taken seriously. Despite the shots I made at modern RE gamers that praise the newer and more action based games of the series, the fact this remake was re-released on modern systems just shows how some classics will never go out of style... The remade Resident Evil gets 5 out of 5 green herbs to replenish health.
