Twinkle twinkle little bat, how I wonder what you LOOK! A CAT!!!
Boys and girls, this is Dead Space. Game begins with a repair ship imbound to the USG Ishimura, a massive mining vessel that's gone dark and sent a distress signal requesting aid. When you, an engineer named Isaac, get aboard you find the ship staff slaughtered by nasty little pug uglies called Necromorphs or Space Insect Zombies as I see them. This is because of a guy part of this religion was under orders by his church to get this statue thing and sure enough, statue thing makes everyone crazy and carries an extraterrestrial plague with it that mutates the dead's genetics... I'm kinda seeing a pattern in things like this, Alien, Metal Gear... The Man is always against you!
The gameplay of game feels a lot like Resident Evil 4 INNNNNN SPAAAAAAAAAAACE! Controls, camera, perspective, hordes of enemies... But unlike RE4, Dead Space has a lot that makes it it's own such as that glowing light on your spine? That's your health. KIlling your enemies? You have to use your plasma cutter and strategically slice off the Necromorphs' limbs to kill them and save ammo. You can slow stuff down, float in zero gravity, use vending machines to buy weapons (And unlike BioShock I don't have to hear the annoying thing go off about "Circus of Values hahaha" everytime I wanna shop for ammo). Yeah, despite this game having huge influencing/inspiring from Alien and Resident Evil, this game really feels like it's own thing and is genuinely scary with it's monsters and environments.
As much as I think parts of this game could be better (Isaac's suit is just weird for me to look at and some of the enemy encounters just get crazy) this is one I used to hate but looking back at it... It's pretty good. I mean, it's hard in this day to come up with something original and I think this game did that. It gets 4 outta 5 crazy undead alien cult guys. | |
