Completely different from the game released for Sega Genesis, still fun as Hell...
This game begins with the guy you play (No RPG class or character selection) waking up in a morgue locker and falling face first on to the floor. You may wonder what's the first thing this guy says...
As you can see, the viewpoint of this Shadowrun game is WAY different than the Genesis game. Although there are RPG stats in the game it feels more like a point and click adventure at times such as shooting bad guys or searching the area for objects to pick up.
In this story, the character you play has no memory and must follow a set of clues which landed him on a table in the morgue. Along the way he must listen to a mysterious talking dog (Which only growls when you ask questions), go to bars, drink Iced Teas, get shot at by hitmen, compete against warriors in a gladiator-like arena, and even see the famous Maria Mercurial playing on stage in a club (I admit, I LOVE that scene as the music and dancing girl on stage totally rocks)...
As with the Sega Genesis game, there are things I'm annoyed with this game. In this one... They don't really do a great job telling you where to go or what you're supposed to do exactly. One area I got stumped with is I saw a doctor and come to find out there's a bomb inside Jake's head! I know, that's a big ass problem to hear from a doctor! Worse, he suggests you to see this OTHER doctor, but not WHERE you can find him... Doesn't even point you in the right direction! So you're left with this explosive device in your brain and a message popping up counting down, "You have X hours until detonation." An hour is like 1 minute in video game time...
So yeah, great game but unlike the Sega Genesis one I do not think these flaws are totally excuseable. Although I believe Shadowrun for the Super Nintendo rightly deserves 4 out of 5 brain burnt corpses as it's a fun game, challenging, and the mysterious story getting revealed when you gather a clue here and there is awesomely done... Could've been done JUST A BIT better though. | |
