With a yo ho ho and a bottle of rum...

This is another of those games made long ago, then remade with graphical upgrade, then released yet again. But for good reason though; this game is addictive and as fun as a barrel of pirate monkeys.

The gameplay is fairly simple.Give your character a name and the country you're from. You sail around the caribbean, sinking whatever ships you decide "I hate it, let's sink it", by colliding your ship with the enemy you can engage in simple sword fights in which you duel the captain of the enemy ship. You can fight anyone, captains of Dutch, English, French, Spanish, even famous pirate ships! You can duel Captain Kidd, Morgan, even the infamous Blackbeard!

"Note to self: Forget fathering children!" - Captain You

The story's pretty good too; as a child, your family was taken by Maquis Montalban and you swear yourself to rescue your family and/or gut the evil and vile pig of a douche, I mean man. But you don't actually have to play the storyline through, you can retire from pirating without rescuing any family members or hunting down Maquis Montalban. Catch 22 is your character actually ages in the game, and the longer you plunder and do all the fun stuff of being a pirate, the smaller time frame you have to rescue family and/or assault the Maquis guy.

"30 years old and still blowing crap the Hell out of the water and into Davy Jones' locker, haha!!!... Do feel like I'm forgetting something though I don't know what..."
- Captain You

5 years later...

"See, big sister! I came for you. Forget about you? Nooooooooooooo... I've a good memory. Just been, err, um, busy! Yes, that's it! I was too busy to save you!"
- Captain You

You can even win the favors of the prissy Governors, dance with their daughters should you attack their countries enemies, and can even marry them if you continue to build your relations. Though I find it a bit funny that the so called "beautiful" daughters actually look a bit like tavern wenches...

"Trying to look at your cleavage? Nooooooooooooooo... I'm much more attracted to your boobies, err! I mean eyes! Yes, what lovely eyes you have!" - Captain You

Overall, this game is really fun and addictive despite of the simple mini-game style of ship to ship and dueling combat as well as the dancing of the Governers' daughters. I say Sid Meier's Pirates! gets 4 out of 5 buried treasure chests. Yeah-arrr!
