Ahh yes... Rage. Rage, Rage, Rage... A bitch of an emotion but a good
game from the same company responsible for making Wolfenstein 3D, Doom,
and Quake. This is my review of the game, not the emotion.
 Rage
was actually the first brand new game from Id Software and not just
another adaption/sequel to a game they had already made. The story stars
you as the sole survivor in a extremely technological kind of fallout
shelter called an Ark. You awaken from your cryogenic chamber and find
the world a dismal wasteland from a very large asteroid colliding with
the planet. Shortly from emerging from your Ark, you discover what few
survivors are tribes of bandits, civilized colonies of humans here and
there, and mutants... Lots and lots of mutants. The gameplay is a very nice mix of open world 1st person wasteland action, car racing, and car combat. It's kinda like Fallout 3 being bred with Twisted Metal. The gameplay, much like Doom, is very action packed and addictive. The health has that recharging crap like Halo and Duke Nukem Forever, which I don't like. But for once they somewhat came up with a decent recent; there's a small defibrillator built on your heart and when you get killed, you get this kinda minigame screen where you where you move the joysticks/press SPACEBAR just right to produce charges to restart your heart. So it'd make sense you have some kind of nanomachines or something that patch up your wounds.
There are also usable bandages that you can buy/find and use to instantly heal your wounds.Good things aside, now it's time to rant on the bad shit. The storyline (much like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D) isn't very well developed. I won't reveal too much of the end but will say it's very anti-climatic, not what you'd expect for a story's ending, and it feels it came too prematurely meaning I felt like "No, that can't be it! What happens next? This doesn't explain shit!" I will say the classic Id Software Chaingun/Minigun style of weapon you wind up getting... But only right BEFORE the final mission. I beat the game within about 20 hours of gameplay, not as much replay value as Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Oblivion or Skyrim and this is a bit of a disappointment. There's also this bug often found when entering a new area or quickly turning to the left or right where it takes a moment for the graphics to be rendered in the proper resolution, this can be annoying but not too much as it only takes a few seconds.
Back to the goodies! The graphics are breathtaking and even though it's another apocalyptic wasteland game, it does NOT feel like a Fallout 3ripoff or clone, it has it's own feel which is pretty fun and enjoyable. The graphics are pretty awesome... And there's also these awesome easter egg areas that pay tribute to Id Software's classic First Person Shooters. The grandfather, Wolfenstein 3D...
The game that was a more popular FPS revolution, Doom...
And the very poop brown introduction to 3D models in FPS games that is Quake...
Overall, it's hard to give this game a good rating. It's very fun and addictive but too quick to beat and the story does feel a bit half assed. Ummmm... I'd say 4 out of 5 wrecked cars with machine guns?
