Metal music, cybernetic bad guys harvesting body parts, chaingun, yep... It's all good. Hmmm... A bunch of alien cyborgs called The Strogg come to Earth to harvest resources. But these guys don't want food or water or gold (Really, why the Hell would aliens come to Earth for gold? That's just dumb, just like everything in that stupid Cowboys Versus Aliens movie.), no that'd be too simple. These Strogg guys have come to harvest bodies and body parts for their armies of flesh and metal, of wires and blood. Earth is losing the battle and we've an attempt to win the war in a single operation. 1: Get some very badass music for the troops to listen to. 2: Fly to the Stroggs' homeworld and take the fight to them. 3: Be the single survivor, grab some Quad Damage, and make your enemies explode into gore on their own turf! The action of Quake II is a non-stop joyride of gunfights against an relentless enemy. The hard hitting music of Sonic Mayhem really capitalizes on the run 'n' gun action, giving the player even more of a "I'm here to kick ass and be a hero" feeling. The graphics however, aren't that great, and even less good when compared to games that came out in the last decade or so... But even during the time of Playstation 2s, this game was awesome.
The 1st Quake had a more medieval Hellish fantasy feel to it with very brown worlds that made me think "Everything looks shitty! Even the water!" and I'm very glad the developers took a different path by having it futuristic , with a lot less poo looking graphics, against a kind of an enemy not seen before in a game, but somewhat reminds of the Jamie Lee Curtis movie, Virus. Ohhhhhhh, I love that movie. The fact you're fighting various kinds of gory cyborgs instead of the overly used demons or other monsters in a First Person Shooter, is a refreshing change that also makes me love the game more.
Despite the poor graphics, the overall fun of running around panzerfausting these Strogg bastards with an arsenal of weapons ranging from shotguns to railguns, from a energy blaster pistol to multi-barreled chaingun makes this game such a blast to play. Quake II gets 5 out of 5 severed cyborg limbs. | |
