Medieval Doom with Magic... Complete review in 4 words!

Plot: Some wizards did some bad magic and brainwashed human kings but elves these elves were immune to the magic and are deemed as heretics by the bad guys. The elves come up with a plan to free the human kings from their spell but one elf mage is all like "Ahhh Hell no, I'm taking the fight to these d-bags!" So he has to fight these conjured demonic monsters and kill the wizards. Well that's pretty much the gist of what I got from the plot... It's like Doom, story isn't the focus point of the developer's attention.

"Hey, Link! How 'bout you watch a REAL elven hero in action?" - Corvus

As with Doom, the action in the gameplay is pretty good. Unlike Doom, I'm surprised how intense it quickly gets. Enemies attack in hordes by the time you get to the 2nd level! Level design is anything but linear and I had to stop and think "Okay, where was that locked door again?" And if that didn't take the cake (Cheesecake in my case. Mmmmm... I love cheesecake... *drool* ), the music COMPLETELY fits the mood of the game: It's epic like Conan but at the same time a little tense, as though it's making you think "Yep, you are fighting undead hordes from Hell."

"Hey, Nukem! How 'bout you witness a REAL badass in action?"- Corvus

The weapons of this game are pretty diverse too, ranging from thunder gauntlet to use the force like Emperor Palpatine to a magic crossbow that fires multiple ethereal arrows to a badass arcane staff you poke things with.

Heretic is what I thought Doom should be: Challenging, atmospheric, complex, but at the same time fun and making you wanna play more and more until you beat those parts/baddies giving you trouble. Heretic gets 5 out of 5 magic rune crystal... Things
