NOT the movie or game starring Pierce Brosnan...

Being a fan of the movie, the N64 game, AND the Nintendo Wii, this is one I was wanting to play... Then I found out they pretty completely redid the story and gameplay, and I was instantly less excited. The easiest change to describe is this game (which is based off another game which is based off the movie) doesn't star the man being Bond in the classic movie or game. Instead, Pierce Brosnan is replaced by the newer, more aggressive and less gadget wielding Bond actor, Daniel Craig. Now, I love the movies starring Daniel Craig but seeing how it's a Pierce Brosnan movie shouldn't they've kept him in the game, at least as a multiplayer character? I think so. After all, they have the classic Bond villians Oddjob, Dr. No, and Jaws as playable characters, why not the classic Bond/Bonds? To me, it's like remaking the Sega Genesis game Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and replacing Arnold Schwarzenegger with Sam Worthington, and giving the playable Terminator more of Worthington's attitude/character from the new movie instead of the classic ones. Bitch move, you guys.

"Would you guys believe me if I said I wasn't even supposed to be here today? Or anywhere in this game for that matter?" - Daniel Craig

Moving on... The classic style of gameplay which was simple and fun was replaced by the more modern and challenging style of First Person Shooter with regenerating health and weapon limitations... Go figure. I hate that I can't carry a gun in each hand and kick ass... But at least I can carry up to 3 different guns, that makes me feel less weak than the COD games. There actually is a mode where you don't heal wounds and get a pop-up health display when shot, just like classic Goldeneye, but you still have that lame 3 weapon arsenal limit. There's always a catch... Damn.

The graphics and voice acting are pretty cool... That's good! But they gave the game's soundtrack more like a Bond movie soundtrack instead of the awesome music in the classic Goldeneye game... That's bad. There are certain areas that provide nostalgic feelings if you played the N64 game or seen the movie... Good! But would've been better had they made the levels more complex like the original levels instead of the new "follow the path to beat the level" kind of design... Bad. They kept the characters from the movie... Good. None of them have any appearance similar to their characters in the movie, some appear and die sooner/later than they're supposed to... Bad. Ultimately it's like they totally redid the events of the movie and said "If we were to remake the 1995 film, make it more modern with weapons and style of the new Bond movies, what would it be like? Screw it. Let's make a game as that'll probably be a lot more entertaining." And strangely, it is entertaining! But you gotta play it like you've never seen/played Goldeneye before. If you play it while not thinking about the classics, you won't be disappointed expecting something true to the original.

Now I've poked fun and even insulted a little bit, but this game is pretty fun despite the numerous changes made from one of my favorite Bond films and possibly the best Nintendo 64 ever conceived. And so, I say Goldeneye 007 deserves 4 gorgeous Bond girls out of 5. Oh, and for all those without a Wii, they made a "reloaded" version for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
