After beating it I had to ask, "Wait, that's it?!?!"
As I mentioned in my review for Modern Warfare Reflex, World At War is the COD game that got me into the series, and I had to play it on Wii to do so. After purchasing the game, and spending a few hours (Less than 10) to beat the story mode I have to say I'm a little disappointed... For a title called World At War I expected more than playing a Marine fighting the Japanese with the desire to avenge Pearl harbor or being a Russian soldier that survived the battle of Stalingrad and is out to see the Third Reich come to an end. Now don't get me wrong, that stuff is cool and what is expected in a World War 2 game, but where's the resistance fighters of France and Poland fighting the invaders of their countries? Where's the British struggling in London? Better yet, where's the massive invasions of North Africa and Western Europe? Or famous battles in the pacific like Iwo Jima or Guadalcanal? Well they're not here making World At War feeling all that much smaller.
So what does COD: World At War have to offer? Well personally as much as I love games like Wolfenstein where you're a one man army against unstoppable Nazi war machine, I rather like the idea of World War 2 games set in the pacific theater of the war as it just seems more original. Fighting the Germans from the Russians' point of view is pretty cool too, you really get an idea of pride for the army and nation in the final level when you have to carry the flag and plant it in the heart of Berlin after defeating the Germans. "I may not always get to conquer my enemies, but when I do I do so with the pride of my country. Stay awesome, my friends." - Viktor Reznov
Can I say it's a really awesome game? No, not really. Can I say it sucks? Nope, I've played worse in which I had to as, "What were the game designers thinking?!?!" I'd have to give World At War 3 out of 5 conquered countries. Oh, and if you're one of the those who'd play this on PC, PS3, or Xbox 360, it looks like there is a zombie level (As pointless but fun as in Black Ops) if you stay after the credits... Me, owning the game on Wii don't get to play this level. Damn... Still gets 3 out 5 where it counts though.
