Seeeeeeeeeegaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
As a Xenomorph (Creature from the Alien movies), the gameplay is mostly focused on destroying lights, sticking to the shadows, performing graphic stealth kills on unsuspecting marines, harvesting civilians for the facehuggers, and occasionally combat with your sharp claws and tail. The story begins with escaping from a science facility ran by a character played by Lance Henriksen (He played the android, Bishop, in Aliens and Mr. Weyland in AVP.) and leads up to a climatic finish against a group of Predatorsto beat the game... Nope, not spoiling the endings for this game.
"You are one... Ugly... Mother..." The gameplay with the Predator is a bit different, there still is a stealthiness you must use in order to not die (Why they didn't make him as tough an SOB as they did in the movie with Schwarzenegger, I don't know... May've made the game too easy maybe.) but you do get to use all Predator's cool toys like wrist blades, cloaking device, plasma cannon, thermal imaging, throwing disc, and spear. Unfortunately, the Xenomorphs (Alien) can see through your cloak and you can often get surrounded by a group, but you've got the tools to take him out. Much like the Xenomorph storyline, there is an epic and climatic big boss battle towards the ending but this time it's against a Predator-Xenomorph hybrid. That's the only spoiler you're gonna get for this game! I only tell you a this one as the Predator gameplay is my least favorite of the 3 storylines!
The marine storyline is the most terrifying as you battle hordes of acid bleeding Xenomorphs (Alien movies!) as you run more and more low on ammunition. The atmosphere for the marine is especially creepy as the areas are dark much like Doom 3 and the Alien films. Most ironically, you play a black guy, a lot of horror fans will say "The black dude always dies first" which well, obviously doesn't happen here but does come close as you get your ass knocked out cold before the game even starts. There is a weapon limitation in this game, 2 changeable guns and a pistol. You also have recharging health but unlike most First Person Shooters, your health only regenerates a small portion and you need "stims" to replenish additional portions.
The only real downside I can say about Aliens Versus Predator is each storyline is only 6 levels long... Which because the levels are long wouldn't be that annoying except you play the SAME levels with all 3 stories, making the gameplay seem too repetitive as there's only a few changes made. But you know what? This is still one badass First Person Shooter game so I say it well deserves a 5 out of 5 rating. | |
