Based off a book written by Tom Clancy, a man that leaves no detail undescribed... Seriously! He could write 5 paragraphs describing a pencil!
Of course I mean no disrespect for Tom Clancy, the man writes awesome stories.... Just gets carried away with details, I think. Anyways... It's 1984, and the Soviet Navy has built a nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine, the Red October, that even Scotty from Star Trek would say, "Aye, it's a damn fine ship." Problem is the sub is equipped with a new device, and it's up to one of the (VERY) many Baldwin brothers to find out what it is and if need be, stop it. (Seriously Mrs. Baldwin, whether you like sex or cloning, please stop... There's already enough Baldwins to have their own army and take over the world!) The Red October is under the command of Captain Marco Ramius, played by Sean Connery. The sub is equipped with a nearly silent propulsion system that could allow him and his submarine to swim to any waters undetected and nuke whatever country they wished. 1984, remember? Cold war, high threat/fear of nuclear war in case you didn't know. But Connery refuses to allow the Soviets have this stealthy sub... So he's gonna give it to us Americans... You know!!! The people that nuked Japan back in 1945!
The Russians know of Ramius's intentions and have deployed their entire Naval fleet to stop him, along with informing the Americans ahhh... Ahhh... BULLSHIT!!!... Excuse me. That Ramius wants to launch his missiles on the United States. With the Navies of 2 countries attempting to seek the Red October and sink her, it's up to CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) to make direct contact with Captain Ramius (Sean Connery), and ascertain the true intentions. The whole thing is dangerous game of cat and mouse... And no James Bond or all his fancy schmancy gadgets like laser shooting toothbrush, belt that turns into a helicopter, car that turns into a toilet/toilet plunger/bathtub.The Hunt For Red October is a long but entertaining film that I give 4 out of 5 torpedoes. | |
