A Superman movie. Has nothing to do with the character, Steel, that Shaquille O'Neil played in the movie, Steel, despite being a character from the Superman universe... Confused? Good.

In this day and age, Hollywood feels a year can't go by without at least 3 or 4 movies that are based off comic books... Easy money I guess. I mean the writers don't have to do that much work as they can just grab a comic and say, "Oh, this guy's cool! Let's tell how he became awesome and throw in a bunch of fights!" Yeah, that went SO well with those God awful Hulk movies. That's a burn on you, Marvel! In Man of Steel's case however, the movie begins with showing the last moments of Superman's world of Krypton and it is EPIC!!! How epic is it? Like... James Cameron's Avatar kinda epic... Russell Crowe even flies on this giant dinosaur bird thing to save his son and send him the Hell off of... Well... A planet going to Hell!

"The world's getting destroyed?! With all due respect councilors, me saying 'I TOLD you so' just doesn't cut it..." - Superman's father

So next we see Clark Kent helping some people, not punching a sexist trucker pig in a bar but totally smashing up his truck (C'mon, it's Superman. AKA Captain Boy Scout who wouldn't hurt a fly), you see some touchy flashbacks to Clark Kent's childhood which gets a little sad as people treat him worse than Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man but unlike Spidey, kid Clark is humble when saving people and his foster folks try to downplay his awesomeness so the Men In Black don't show up to the front door. Anyways, the movie continues, he discovers a ship from Krypton with info he's been long searching for, Lois Lane shows up and digs into his past (Unlike the cartoons and comics, she is NOT a ditsy dumbass throwing herself off buildings... Good change, Hollywood, good change) and listens to Clark explain...

"If the world knew about me, they wouldn't accept me or my talents... They'd just want to strap me on a table and probe my WAIT! ... That's what we aliens are supposed to do... Hehe. No, they'd gut me like a fish just to see what makes me not like them... Does that sound fun?. "- Clark Kent

Maybe not those exact words but he sells his point to Lois Lane, die hard news reporter. Does it matter? No. Because that night some bad military Kryptonian dudes show up to raise all kinds of Hell before destroying the world.

"COMMENCE HUMAN ASS PROBING!!!" - General Zod

Superman shows up wearing his tight space jammies and stops the bad guys (Big shocker there) but get this? An Army General actually has the gall to ask Superman, "How do we know you won't be a bad guy like those other aliens?"

"Are you serious? ... General, I grew up in Kansas. I'm as American as you can get. Now excuse me, my beer is getting warm, I'm missing the football game, AND my Facebook friends are bad mouthing the Government."
- Superman

All in all, I was surprised how entertaining Man of Steel was. Personally, I thought the trailer was great but the movie was even BETTER, and I'm not really a fan of Superman. The story was told well, actors all did a great job, action felt epic. I give this movie 5 out of 5 glowing chunks of Kryptonite... Wait... That's BAD for Superman... Okay, 5 chunks of something else.
