An awesome movie featuring one of the most memorable characters of fantasy tales...
At night, the ship faces a storm and is thrown greatly off course. Sinbad finds land and swims ashore where he's chased by a villain to a nearby city. It is here Sinbad meets a vizier who's face has been burned and wears a golden mask to conceal his ruined face. The vizier explains the villain is a man trained in all the black arts of magic named Koura who seeks the medallion as it'll lead him to the energy of youth, a shield of darkness, and a crown of untold riches that'd give him rule over the land. Koura was the one that started the fire which burned the vizier's face. To stop Koura's evil schemes, Sinbad and the vizier decide to journey to a mystical island where the treasures will be found. While gathering some supplies, Sinbad meet a slave woman which he had a vision of... Unsure why he had a vision, and because she's obviously sexy and he's got the hots for her, he decides to free her and bring her along for the ride.
As with most fantasy movies, there are some things that kinda feel stupid or even overdone. A scene a bit overdone in this film is Sinbad and his men are trapped in a tomb and they use a quickly crafted bow made from a bar of iron that was used to support a torch. Sinbad then fires this bow with his feet and the arrow carries a rope of turbans and sashes into an opening at least 10 feet in the air, thus providing a means of escape. Keep in mind, even if this could be done, a simple arrow of wood and iron is expected to support the weight of about 8-16 people... A bit unrealistic but what the Hell, it's a fantasy movie.
But ultimately I say this movie is pretty entertaining and well deserves 4 out of 5 Arabian treasures. | |
